DIY Natural First Aid Kit

Do you have a first aid kit at home? Chances are you do. Many times the products included in those kits contain harmful ingredients. Because of this, we’ve put together a must-have list of all-natural items to keep on hand for a variety of first aid needs.

Aloe Vera:

Used for thousands of years, the gel from aloe vera leaves can be very effective when used as a topical treatment for minor burns, skin abrasions and radiation-induced skin injuries. It can also be used long-term for Psoriasis, seborrhea and even dandruff. Aloe Vera plants are great to have however, aloe gel which can be purchased online or at any local pharmacy works just as well.

Gargle Away®:

This powerful anti-microbial pain-relieving throat gargle provides comprehensive throat care at its best. Used to soothe and relieve sore throat and laryngitis by instantly soothing discomfort, reducing the staph-aureus bacteria by 99.9%, decreasing inflammation and loosening mucus. Made of 7 all-natural healing ingredients: Himalayan Salt, Organic Honey, Licorice Root, Lemon, Cayenne Pepper, Mediterranean Oregano and Apple Cider Vinegar. Comes in single-dose easy-to-use packets or KCUPS (which do not require a brewing machine to use). Ideal to store in your All-Natural First Aid kit as this product has a shelf life well over 3 years.

Activated Charcoal Capsules:

Frequently used for food poisoning, detox and stomach bugs, Charcoal Capsules are all natural and known to absorb organic toxins, chemicals and poisons. You can find charcoal pills at any natural food or supplement stores, or even online here.

Epsom Salt:

Remove splinters by soaking in concentrated Epsom salt water, soothe sore muscles by soaking in an Epsom salt bath (2 cups of Epsom salt and a bath full of hot water will do the trick) and relieve minor sun burns (dissolve a tablespoon of Epsom salt in to a ½ cup of water, cool and then spritz onto skin) with this first aid staple. What’s also great about Epsom Salt is that it is very easy to store and has a long shelf life, simply seal the bag or container and keep in a dry place. Available in most supermarkets.

Essential Oils:

Essential Oils come with a wealth of benefits ranging from treatment of skin fungus, help with relaxation and help with soothing common colds and allergies. Oregano, for example, has a naturally antibacterial quality, which makes it great for fighting skin fungus, colds or the flu. Lemon oil can help increase focus and concentration and is even great for keeping fleas away when used on pets! Slippery Elm helps with suppressing cough. Essential Oils can be found at many different natural food and supplement stores. Make sure to follow directions for use carefully.

Apple Cider Vinegar:

Not only is Apple Cider Vinegar a germ fighter, the acid in the vinegar is also known to help restore pH balance. Take Apple Cider Vinegar while ill every hour (1 teaspoon per 8 ounces of water) to help shorten the duration of any type of minor illness.   Due to its high acidity levels, Apple Cider Vinegar has a long shelf life. It’s best to store your vinegar in a cool, dry, dark place, like the pantry. It does not need to be refrigerated once opened. Apple Cider Vinegar can be found at traditional supermarkets, Whole Foods, Trader Joes or online at Amazon.com.
